I’m hoping that everyone is in good spirits as the weather has warmed up and it has started to feel a little bit more like spring! As the rivers are expected to crest today and tomorrow – I hope that all our members have been able to stay dry and haven’t been seriously impacted by the flood waters. Please continue to keep those impacted in your thoughts and prayers, as many people, business and farms throughout the Midwest are still responding to the devastating implications of rising flood waters.
It isn’t new news that unemployment remains low and hiring skilled employees continues to be a challenge to many employers. More important than hiring employees is retaining the great employees that you have. Last week Wednesday, Charlie Kimmel gave a thought producing presentation on recruiting and retention in construction at our March quarterly meeting. If you didn’t have an opportunity to attend, I would encourage you to peek at the presentation materials that have been uploaded to the CFMA Siouxland website.
Additionally, membership approved two new board members at last week’s meeting. Scott Kelderman with Howe Heating and Plumbing, and Brenda Moore with TSP, Inc. will be joining the board effective April 1st. As we welcome each of them on the Board, we also extend appreciation to Cindy Cosand with Egger Steel and Jodi VanEmmerik with P&M Steel, who have each finished their terms. We are grateful for all the time and efforts each of them has dedicated to the Siouxland Chapter!
Several events are coming up – so please mark your calendars and plan to attend!
- April 24th – we are holding a special meeting in Sioux City! Thompson Electric is hosting, and the Program Committee is finalizing the speaker details, it sounds like it’s going to be a great line-up! Let’s show some love and appreciation for our Iowa members that continually travel to Sioux Falls to participate in our Chapter! Look for more details to be released in the next week or so!
- June 19th – June Quarterly Meeting and Industry Builder Golf Tournament!
Lastly – I want to thank all of membership for their renewals for the 2019-2020 membership year. The Siouxland Chapter has 78% renewal as of today (March 25th). That is top of class for our chapter tier group! Last year, we had 85% renewal as of April 1, 2018. Wouldn’t it be great if we could beat last year – or even better, reach 100% renewal!
On Thursday, we will be drawing for 5 – $50 gift cards for members who are renewed by Wednesday (3/27) at 5pm!
Thank you for allowing me to be Chapter President, and to represent a great group of members!
